     Fisheries Productivity

 #  Background Information

The fisheries economic productivity has not increased in last ten years. This sector provided 26 percent employment to the people in the coastal and inland areas. But the jobs are seasonal due the rainy pattern. 24 percent of youth and 31 percent of female population is suffering without jobs in the coastal and inland areas. Fisheries sector is not considered as a job avenue for the youth. They expect an industrial growth and modern jobs in that sector but no modern job skills developed to suit the fisheries industrial growth. Due to tsunami (9/2004) almost all the fisheries industries have collapsed.
