The STEP (Skills To Empowerment) Foundation, a UK registered charity was set up to help in alleviating some of the continuing problems, not by handing out material aid, but by providing skills and training and empowering people to help themselves, enabling them to build a better future for themselves and their communities. STEP is currently working with SFFL to provide skill and consultancy for such things as English Teaching, establishing and running Pre-School Early Learning Centres, operating a Basic Business School, offering management consultancy and assistance, building financial support through social enterprise, and in a number of other ways. more....

Coastal and marine ecosystems such as mangroves, sea grass and coral reefs are some of the most productive ecosystems in the world. These habitats support many economic activities, the most important being the fisheries. in their natural state, these habitats also provide a buffer against the wave action of the sea and play an important coast protection role. These coastal ecosystems are not independent units existing on their own, but are linked together by a complex web of direct and indirect interactions. At fisheries social development activities the main target groups had been set as destitute women, Needy mothers and under age five children and idle youth of the fishing community. 

A fishery sector is contributes 4 percent to GNP.  88 percent of this contribution is coming from small-scale fishing community. Female partners are claimed for 52 percent of this contribution. more....
